Eric Hollies Stand, Edgbaston: view, shade and what to expect

Hollies is Edgbaston at full volume: a side-on cricket view with singing, costumes and a crowd that makes an international feel like an occasion. The club recommends it for adults aged 18 and over. Choose it for the atmosphere as much as the cricket.

The view

The stand follows the eastern boundary, between Stanley Barnes and the South Stand. You look across the square, with a good sense of a shot’s direction and the fielders chasing it. A lower position brings boundary action closer; higher rows give you more of the field at once. Compare the block as well as the row to put the wicket where you want it.

Its roof shelters part of the seating. Hollies is in shade under cover in the morning and catches the sun after lunch. Front rows get more direct light, so take a hat and sunscreen even if you book beneath a roof. Check the seat description for a restriction from a rail or roof edge before paying.

The Hollies atmosphere

Fancy dress is part of the tradition, especially on major-match days. Edgbaston’s rules prohibit offensive, racist, commercial or political clothing and banners; choose your costume accordingly. Musical instruments, whistles and horns need prior permission. The club’s 18-plus recommendation describes the atmosphere: it is not an age ban. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over.

Access

AccessAble records standard step-free seating at Row A, with steps to the other rows. Designated wheelchair viewing also uses the front row, reached by a ramp that the survey describes as steep and uneven. Discuss the route and companion position with the ticket office before booking. A front-row seat and a designated wheelchair space are separate bookings.

Restricted-view tickets can hide part of the outfield; the club says the active pitch remains visible. Heavily restricted seats can also hide part of the pitch. Read the seat category before booking.

Food, drink and toilets

The food court beside Hollies makes this a convenient place to take a break. Edgbaston has food and drink outlets around the concourse, so find your block’s return entrance before leaving for lunch. Buying refreshments does not give access to the private rooms elsewhere in the ground.

AccessAble places toilet provision behind the neighbouring Stanley Barnes seating. Use the club’s accessibility guide to locate adapted toilets and the Changing Places facility before the first session. Spectators cannot bring alcohol into Edgbaston at any match, and glass bottles are prohibited. Food and non-alcoholic refreshments must meet the ground regulations.

Edgbaston’s ground regulations

Who it suits

Hollies will delight adult friends who want to join in the singing and make a full day of an England match or Finals Day. For a family visit or an alcohol-free setting, compare Dennis Amiss blocks 1–3, where the club prohibits alcohol consumption. A county match also offers a different rhythm from a packed international.

Agree a meeting point with your group before the first ball: matching costumes are fun, but a named concourse entrance is easier to find at the interval.
