Privacy and cookies
This notice explains the information used when you visit Off to the Cricket. Updated 4 October 2026.
Who is responsible
The controller is Peter Taylor trading as Does Your Duck Quack?, 5 South Charlotte Street, Edinburgh, EH2 4AN. Contact for privacy questions and rights requests: webmaster@offtothecricket.co.uk. You can also write to the postal address above.
What this site does now
This is a public information site. You can read the guides without an account. There is no newsletter signup, comment system, contact form or payment checkout on the site. Tickets, hotels and other purchases are handled by the external provider you choose.
The site’s own scripts provide navigation, the stand sun finder and the theme button. No analytics tool, advertising pixel or affiliate-tracking script is currently installed. The hosting service receives the technical requests needed to load a page.
Your light or dark preference
When you use the theme button, the site saves light or dark under the key ottc-theme in your browser’s localStorage. This remembers the appearance you selected on later visits. The theme script reads that setting but does not send it to us or use it to track you across websites.
There is no expiry set by the script: the preference remains until you clear this site’s browser data or your browser removes it. Clearing it returns the site to your device’s colour preference. LocalStorage is browser storage, distinct from a cookie; privacy rules can apply to both.
Self-hosted fonts
Zilla Slab and Libre Franklin are stored with this website and loaded from its own assets. The site no longer uses Google Fonts. Your browser does not connect to Google’s font servers when you read these pages.
The font files are delivered by the same hosting service as the page. This keeps the typography available without a separate font-provider request; ordinary hosting request information is described below.
Hosting, security and enquiries
The site is hosted through Sites/OpenAI using Cloudflare infrastructure. These services handle technical request information to deliver pages, protect the website and investigate errors or abuse. That information can include an IP address, requested address, request time and browser or device information. Provider log contents and retention depend on the hosting service.
For information we use to operate and secure the site or answer an enquiry, our lawful basis is legitimate interests: maintaining a working, safe information service and responding to visitors. Where information must be kept to meet a legal obligation, that obligation is the basis. We do not use visitor information for decisions with legal or similarly significant effects based solely on automated processing.
If you contact us, we use the details you provide to answer and handle the issue. Please avoid sending unnecessary sensitive information. Enquiry records are kept while needed to resolve the matter and any related legal or complaint requirement, then deleted. Technical log retention is governed by the hosting providers’ settings and policies.
Service providers and international handling
Hosting providers receive information as described above. We may also disclose information where legally required or necessary to deal with a security incident. Their services can process information outside the UK. Read OpenAI’s privacy policy and Cloudflare’s privacy policy for their published international handling.
Contact us for information about the arrangements and safeguards applying to this site’s services. The hosting providers operate internationally; their notices describe those services.
Affiliate and other external links
Clicking a link takes you to another provider’s website. Affiliate partners or their networks may use cookies or similar technologies after you click through, including to attribute a later booking or purchase. Their privacy notices and cookie choices apply on those sites; a purchase is made with them.
Our pages currently use ordinary external links and do not load a partner tracking script while you read. We do not receive your payment-card information through these links. See the affiliate disclosure before choosing a booking link.
Analytics and future choices
No analytics tool is currently installed. If we add one, this notice will identify its provider, the information collected, purpose and retention, and explain the choices available before it runs. We will distinguish any qualifying statistics-only use from advertising, profiling or wider tracking.
Where consent is required, optional tracking will wait for your choice and you will be able to withdraw it. Where a storage exception applies, we will provide the information and objection route it requires. This future section does not authorise a tool or say that every analytics service is exempt from consent.
Your rights and objections
You can ask for access to personal information we hold, correction of inaccurate details, deletion or restriction where the legal conditions apply. You can object to processing based on legitimate interests. Portability applies where its conditions are met; if processing relies on consent, you can withdraw that consent without affecting earlier lawful processing.
To object to our use of your information or remembered appearance setting, contact webmaster@offtothecricket.co.uk. Explain the use you want to stop. We will consider the request and explain any legal reason that prevents us from carrying it out. Clearing browser storage resets the theme but is separate from making a privacy objection.
You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). Contact us if you would like us to investigate a concern; that does not limit your right to contact the ICO.
