West Stand, Edgbaston: view, shade and what to expect

West gives you two ways to enjoy Edgbaston’s southwestern corner: lower seating beside the Exhibition Hall, or a higher view that takes in the field and Birmingham’s skyline. Compare West Lower and West Upper together, then choose the tier around the height and shelter you prefer.

The view

The West Stand curves between the South Stand and Dennis Amiss. From this corner, you look diagonally across the wicket and the field towards the northern end. It is a useful angle for watching the bowling and seeing where shots go, with the ground’s buildings helping frame the play. Lower seats bring boundary cricket closer; upper seats broaden the whole picture.

West Lower

The lower tier is reached from behind the Exhibition Hall. AccessAble describes partial roof cover, with shelter varying across the seating. Ordinary rows involve steps, and the lower-tier survey does not identify designated wheelchair viewing. Compare the exact row’s cover and any restricted-view note, including the sightline under an overhang or past a rail.

West Upper

Upstairs, the club highlights panoramic cricket views and the city skyline. AccessAble records uncovered public seating and a designated wheelchair viewing area reached by lift E5. Ordinary upper rows still use steps, so a lift into the stand is not the complete route to every seat. Ask the ticket office to book the viewing position and companion arrangement you need.

West catches morning sun and gets a mix of afternoon sun and shade. Covered lower positions can be shaded while the open upper tier remains exposed. Choose the tier and row for your preferred balance, and pack sun protection for either level. A higher viewpoint and a roof are separate things to compare when booking.

Restricted-view tickets can hide part of the outfield; the club says the active pitch remains visible. Heavily restricted seats can also hide part of the pitch. Read the seat category before booking.

Food, drink and toilets

West Lower has food outlets and toilets behind the seating near the Exhibition Hall, with the club shop close by. West Upper uses its own lobby and concourse facilities. Locate your return entrance before going for refreshments, particularly if members of your group have booked different levels.

The upper-tier AccessAble survey records toilets in the level-two corridor; use the detailed access information for the nearest adapted facility and its route. Food and drinks are sold around the stadium, so there is plenty to explore between sessions. Leave glass bottles and your own alcohol at home, and follow the ground regulations for other refreshments brought into Edgbaston.

Who it suits

West is a pleasing choice for visitors who want an angled cricket view and a clear choice between lower shelter and a higher outlook. The upper tier particularly suits watching the field spread out, with Birmingham beyond it. The lower tier is convenient for a group that likes the Exhibition Hall side and its nearby facilities.

Book the same tier for everyone travelling together, then note the entrance on each ticket before setting off.
