The view

The Pavilion anchors the southeast end of The Oval, between Bedser and SSE Energy Solutions. Looking towards the Vauxhall End gives an angled end-on perspective: you can follow the bowling line while keeping the field spread out beyond it. The building is part of what makes this ground feel distinctive, and county cricket gives you time to settle into that setting.

Compare the terrace, balcony and higher seating for the perspective you enjoy. A lower position keeps you closer to the boundary; a higher one helps you read the field. On unreserved domestic days, select from the eligible areas available when you arrive. If a particular sightline matters, ask Surrey about rails, overhangs and the view from the row you are considering.

The Pavilion has both sheltered and exposed seating. Covered positions generally have the morning sun behind them and face the afternoon light, with shade under cover in the morning and sun in the afternoon. A roof does not keep low sunlight off every front row. Pack a hat for a summer afternoon and choose the level around the view and cover you prefer.

Access arrangements differ by level. AccessAble describes a designated viewing area at the front of the terrace and stepped ordinary rows. Its top-seating survey records level access to Row L through Horn’s Tavern, with steps elsewhere and no designated wheelchair spaces in that upper area. Tell Surrey which route you need before choosing seating; a level-access standard row is different from a wheelchair viewing position.

Food, drink and toilets

The Pavilion contains members’ refreshments, and Surrey’s county match guidance describes food and drink available within the enclosure. Find the facilities open for your match before settling in. Your host should help establish the route between seating and refreshments, keeping the visit comfortable without missing the start of a session.

AccessAble records adapted toilets at several Pavilion levels, including the terrace, ground floor, second and third floors. Read the survey with Surrey if the transfer side or lift route matters. On arrival, identify the nearest suitable toilet and return entrance. Use card or mobile payment at The Oval’s outlets.

Who it suits

The Pavilion is a lovely choice for Surrey members and eligible county guests who want a day rooted in the club’s home ground. Its angled end-on outlook suits following the bowling, while the terraces and higher seating offer different ways to enjoy the field. Championship cricket is especially well suited to a relaxed visit with a member host.

Agree a meeting point with your host before travelling and arrive together. That makes it easier to choose available seating as a group and enjoy the first session without sorting out the guest arrangement at the gate.

How to get in

Start with Surrey’s membership options and choose a category that includes the domestic cricket you want to attend. The membership terms explain that access depends on the category. For a guest visit, the member arranges the vouchers through their Surrey ticketing account; the guest does not buy a normal public Pavilion seat.

Surrey’s current FAQs permit up to four guests in the Pavilion at County Championship or One-Day Cup matches, always accompanied by the member. Its guest-voucher guide explains how the host selects the fixture, requests vouchers and transfers them through the Kia Oval app. The number allocated depends on the membership category.

For T20, The Hundred and internationals, guests cannot use the Pavilion. Members’ international seating follows its own purchasing priority and capacity arrangements; use your account’s current instructions. Settle eligibility and vouchers with your host before booking travel, then carry the correct live ticket and follow the entrance instructions for your match. Last checked: October 2026.
