Sophia Gardens: accessibility guide
Sophia Gardens provides accessible entrances, wheelchair viewing, companion tickets and a Changing Places facility. Start with Glamorgan’s accessibility information and contact info@glamorgancricket.co.uk or 02920 409 380 to discuss your match, seating and arrival. Arranging the three together gives staff the information needed to recommend a route.
Booking accessible tickets
For Sophia Gardens-controlled events, the club says a disabled spectator pays the normal ticket price and one companion, if required, is admitted free. An event controlled by a separate promoter can have a different policy. Ask the Ticket Office about evidence, availability and the companion’s seat before purchasing an ordinary ticket.
The club identifies wheelchair viewing in front of the main stand and Members’ Stand, plus an elevated platform accessed by lift. The seating guide identifies wheelchair areas in front of Blocks 20 and 38 and behind Block 32. The facilities update also identifies The Terrace, reached by the Media Centre lift. Give staff the block on your proposed ticket so they can confirm the current viewing area and route.
For ambulant spectators, many ordinary seats have an easier approach, but that does not make every row step-free. Explain whether you use crutches, a stick or a walking frame and whether you can manage steps. Ask about the number of steps, handrails, distance and the route to toilets as well as the view.
Getting to the ground
Accessible entrances are Gate Two, Gate Four and Gate Five, on level tarmac or paved surfaces. Which entrance operates depends on the event. Confirm your gate when booking and keep the arrival instructions with your ticket; a general walking map may take you to the wrong side of the ground.
The July 2025 club update says accessible parking for domestic fixtures is free outside Gate Two, arranged through the club. Internationals and The Hundred use additional paid spaces at the Sophia Gardens pay-and-display car park, with a golf-buggy shuttle to help spectators reach the stadium. Ask about availability, vehicle boarding and return arrangements for your match.
A drop-off point near the stadium can be arranged. Contact reception before travelling; confirm the required arrival time and any vehicle movement restrictions for your event. Cardiff Central’s parkland walk is useful for some visitors, but arrange an alternative if the distance or surface does not suit you.
Inside the ground
The Changing Places facility is on the Castell Howell concourse at Block 35. Accessible toilets are distributed around the stadium, including Pavilion levels, the National Cricket Centre, Media Centre and main concourses. They use RADAR keys; stewards carry keys and one is available at Pavilion reception. Ask staff to identify the closest suitable toilet and its route before taking your seat.
The family toilet beneath the Jellyfish Stand at Block 10 includes an accessible toilet, baby-changing station and mothering area. Ask a nearby steward for access. Food outlets operate on matchdays, with locations varying by event; check whether your chosen viewing area has a straightforward route to a counter.
Assistance dogs and support
Assistance dogs are welcomed, and water bowls can be provided. The published access page identifies a dog spending area on the Pavilion’s back lawn. Tell the club when booking so it can consider space beside your seat and confirm the current route. Ordinary pet dogs are prohibited by the ground regulations.
Sensory packs can be bought at Pavilion reception and include ear defenders, a fidget spinner, a stress ball and a stadium map. The current price is TBC; ask before the day. Dedicated accessibility stewards wear pink high-visibility vests and can help with navigation and seating.
The stadium has a small supply of wheelchairs for escorted access to seats. They cannot be reserved for an entire event. If you need a wheelchair throughout your visit, arrange your own equipment or local hire. Follow steward instructions during an evacuation and discuss any assistance you may need when arranging the booking.
