Ambassador Cruise Line Ground: accessibility
Arrange accessible viewing at the Ambassador Cruise Line Ground with Essex’s current visitor guide and ticket team before selecting an ordinary seat. The club identifies wheelchair platforms, companion tickets and a Changing Places facility. Give staff the match, equipment, companion and preferred viewing area so the ticket and arrival route can be considered together.
Booking accessible tickets
The published 2026 Championship guide identifies wheelchair viewing at Tom Pearce Block 1 and the Graham Gooch End. The current ground map also marks wheelchair positions in Kenton blocks 30–31. Allocation and the sections opened vary by fixture: name the actual match rather than relying on a position shown for another event. An ordinary front-row ticket is not a reserved wheelchair place.
Essex provides a free companion ticket for eligible disabled visitors. The current guide lists PIP, DLA for under-sixteens, a Blue Badge or an Access Card as evidence. Ask the ticket team how to supply proof and arrange the two places together before payment. The published guide describes first-come accessible parking at the ground without pre-booking; confirm arrival and availability directly when arranging your visit.
Getting to the ground
National Rail lists Chelmsford station as Category A, with step-free access to all platforms and lifts. Arrange railway assistance through the operator if needed, and check lift availability for the actual journey. Station access and the final ground approach are separate questions; a step-free platform does not establish that every route across the city works for your equipment.
Essex gives a ten-minute station walk and a Central Park approach to the 1876 Gate via Century Tower. Ask which entrance is open and most suitable for your seat. The Main Gate is on New Writtle Street and River Gate faces the city-centre approach. Discuss a drop-off if the walk or crossings do not suit you.
General spectator ground parking is unavailable. Meteor Way is a separate member arrangement, described by the club as a five-minute walk, with closure thirty minutes after play. Sandon Park & Ride currently operates Monday to Saturday, while Chelmer Valley runs weekdays only. Check the operator’s accessible vehicle, final service and stop-to-gate route before choosing either; neither is an automatic Sunday-match option.
Inside the ground
Doug Insole Pavilion’s ground floor is described as wheelchair accessible, while the Premier Suite uses stairs and is not wheelchair accessible in the published guide. Room admission and ordinary viewing remain distinct ticket entitlements. If booking an upgrade or catered package, ask about the complete route from entrance to room, outdoor seat and toilet, not simply whether a building has an accessible ground floor.
The club’s 2026 event information places Changing Places in front of the Price Forbes/Graham Gooch Cricket Centre. Contact Essex about opening, staff assistance and essential equipment for your cricket date. Earlier visitor guides identify accessible toilets behind the Pavilion and near the family-side seating; ask for the current nearest facility rather than depending on an old block number.
Assistance dogs and support
Published guides identify a sensory/family room near River Gate and a faith/reflection room in the Cricket Centre. Check the arrangements and how to reach them at your fixture if either is important to the visit. Bring any ear defenders or other personal support that helps in a busy ground, and tell staff about an agreed arrangement at arrival.
Assistance dogs are welcomed in visitor guidance; pet dogs are excluded by the ground terms. Explain any dog, medication or equipment requirements before packing. No current complete AccessAble ground survey was located in the primary club links checked, so use Essex’s own match information and ticket team for the route you need.
