The County Ground, Beckenham: visitor guide

Updated 17 October 2026

The County Ground, Beckenham brings Kent cricket to south-east London, with a Grandstand and space for a more informal day around the boundary. Start with New Beckenham or Beckenham Junction for the journey, and buy the ticket for Beckenham rather than Canterbury.

The ground

This is Kent’s metropolitan outground: a different setting from the county’s main home at Canterbury. It is particularly useful for supporters coming from London who want a county match without building the day around a journey into east Kent. Check the venue line on the fixture carefully: several cricket clubs use the Beckenham name, so navigating simply to “Beckenham cricket” can send you to the wrong ground.

Kent’s festival introduction traces the site to Lloyds Bank’s sports ground in the early 1920s and its first first-class match to 1954. Redevelopment in 2001–02 and 2014 brought the Academy Building and Grandstand into the modern venue. Those dates explain why the place combines a sports-ground footprint with facilities designed for professional cricket.

Our suggestion is to make this a cricket-first day with a local meal afterwards. A four-day match rewards staying through changing sessions: a quiet morning can set up a much more attacking afternoon. With children or a companion trying cricket for the first time, a shorter visit can still be worthwhile; choose admission and return travel that fit the time you actually expect to spend watching.

Stands and where to sit

Kent publishes an official Beckenham ground map. Use it to find the Grandstand, Academy facilities and entrances. The women’s festival information explicitly allowed general-admission visitors, including non-members, to sit in the Grandstand. A ground-admission ticket for that event did not assign a particular seat.

For choosing a view, watch an over from your intended position before unpacking. Behind a bowler you can follow the line towards the stumps; a more side-on position makes the batter’s movement and running easier to follow. These are viewing preferences, so try both if the day’s seating arrangements permit movement. A chair close to a walkway may make refreshments easier but bring more people across your view.

Pack for an outdoor seat, with a hat, sun protection and a waterproof layer. Do not count on shelter simply because a building appears beside a seating area on the map. If shade or a roof is essential for your party, ask Kent for an available place for the specific fixture before buying. Leave room around a folding chair for other spectators to pass without having to step towards the playing area.

Getting there

By taxi or drop-off

Book a licensed taxi in advance if you need a car after play, agreeing a safe collection point with the driver. Check whether your preferred taxi app serves the area.

Sources: TfL: taxis and minicabs

The club’s travel page lists New Beckenham at 0.6 miles and Beckenham Junction at 0.7 miles. Compare the complete journey from your starting station: a slightly longer final walk can be preferable to an extra interchange. Save the route to Worsley Bridge Road before leaving home and allow time for the entrance queue after the walk.

Kent also identifies buses 54 along Southend Road and 352 beside the ground. Use TfL’s journey planner for the actual date and return time, particularly when travelling at a weekend. A bus can be useful if walking with a picnic bag or chair is difficult, but choose the stop and pedestrian entrance together so you do not end up circling the venue.

For men’s first-team fixtures, the venue page directs vehicles to Worsley Bridge Road near the Copers Cope Road corner; the main pedestrian entrance is not a vehicle route. The page lists approximately 350 spaces. Reserve any parking offered with your match ticket and follow the event signs on arrival. Avoid treating a general postcode as instructions for the final turn into a busy entrance.

Have a return plan that can absorb a delay. If you are collecting someone, agree a meeting point clear of the gate before separating, and exchange the exact street name. Download tickets before reaching the ground so entry does not depend on mobile reception. Anyone making separate journeys should have their own ticket available rather than relying on one phone arriving first.

Getting home

The 2026 Championship guide gives a finish around 18:00. Play can finish early or run late. Use New Beckenham or Beckenham Junction for London connections, or the tram for Croydon. Book a licensed taxi in advance if you need a car after play, agreeing a safe collection point with the driver. Check your last train in the National Rail journey planner and allow time to leave the ground.

Tickets and festival days

The 2026 festival programme paired Kent Women against Glamorgan Women on 10 May with Kent against Durham in the Championship on 15–18 May. It also included a Foundation Engagement Day. The opening Championship day featured a schools initiative and cricket activities, showing that the programme involved more than the first-team match alone. Future family activities are TBC until Kent publishes the next programme.

Buy through Kent’s official ticket shop. Match dates, formats and membership entitlements matter: a package covering white-ball cricket need not admit its holder to a Championship day. Check the ticket description for every person in the group, including children, rather than assuming one adult booking covers accompanying juniors.

For 2027, Beckenham dates, admission prices and festival packages are TBC. When sales open, compare a single day with any multi-day product against your likely attendance. A fourth-day ticket can be attractive for someone who can decide late, but a Championship match may finish earlier. Read the refund or credit conditions before committing to a non-refundable journey or hotel.

Your ticket on the day

The 2026 guide allows a printed or downloaded PDF, with wallet tickets and PDFs also scanned from a smart device. The main pedestrian gate and box office are on Worsley Bridge Road. Contact Kent before travelling if you cannot access your ticket or need to confirm concession ID.

Children and age rules

Kent’s ground regulations require under-14s to attend with an adult. Ask about junior ID, hospitality age limits and the ID accepted at bars before booking. Taking the family

What you can take in

The women’s festival guide permitted food, a folding chair and a dog on a short lead. It also allowed either four cans of beer or cider, or one bottle of wine, for that fixture. Keep these permissions tied to the event: they should not be carried over automatically to a T20 ticket or a future festival.

Kent’s 2026 ground regulations prohibit barbecues and gas cylinders, require children under 14 to be accompanied by an adult, and distinguish assistance-dog access at T20 and international games. The rules also prevent visitors increasing seat height in a way that blocks others. A compact picnic is easier to manage beside a seat than a sprawling setup that narrows the walkway.

Pack drinks and food in a bag you can comfortably carry from the station, along with an extra layer for later play. Put your ticket and payment card somewhere accessible rather than underneath the picnic. If you need a particular food or medical item, contact Kent about it before travelling; a clear answer is more useful than relying on a general description of bag checks.

Paying at the ground

The 2026 guide lists cashless payments for tickets, the shop, food and drink; bring a card or smart device. Ask Kent about cash-machine provision if you need it.

Where to stay

For more than one day, compare accommodation near Beckenham Junction with a base elsewhere on your rail route. Our preference is the simplest morning journey: count the walk from the hotel, any interchange and the final approach to the gate, rather than choosing only by distance on a map. A room described as “London” may still leave a substantial cross-city trip.

Before paying, establish the cancellation deadline, breakfast times and whether a late cricket finish would affect check-in. Drivers should check hotel parking separately from match parking. If travelling with children, compare the whole room arrangement and return journey with the saving from staying farther away. Keep the hotel confirmation and match tickets together, but remember that they are separate bookings with separate change policies.

Evenings out

For a change of pace, Beckenham Place Park’s visitor information covers access to the park and its facilities. It is a useful option for a walk on a non-cricket morning or after an early finish. Choose any activity against its own opening and booking arrangements; a park visit and a cricket ticket are independent parts of the trip.

Beckenham Place Mansion has its own visitor page for exhibitions, events and access. Look at the programme before assuming something will be open after play. For a full cricket day, our suggestion is to keep the evening modest: allow time to leave the ground, get back to your accommodation and then eat, rather than booking a tightly timed attraction across London.

Fixtures

2027 Beckenham county fixtures: TBC. The confirmed 2026 festival dates above are previous-season examples, not dates to use for a new booking. Kent’s 2026 fixture announcement identified the Durham match as the return of Championship cricket to Beckenham after four years.

When the next schedule appears, check both the men’s and women’s lists. Record the ground as well as the opponent: Kent’s season includes more than one home venue. Then use the match-specific guide for gate opening, parking and activities, since those are the details most likely to shape a family day or an accessible journey.

Accessibility

For the 2026 Championship festival, Kent directed Blue Badge holders to arrange parking with the club in advance. Use the festival contact details to discuss the entrance, the route to your viewing place and toilet access together. Tell the club whether you need step-free access, a companion seat, space for a mobility aid or a nearby drop-off.

2027 accessible seating arrangements and booking conditions are TBC. Ask for the actual route from arrival to seat rather than only whether the venue is accessible. If coming by rail, review the chosen station’s facilities as well: the most convenient service for another passenger may not provide the easiest platform-to-street journey for you.
