Jellyfish Family Stand, Cardiff: view, shade and what to expect

The Jellyfish Family Stand, previously the AltoDigital Family Stand, is Sophia Gardens’ alcohol-free family seating area, with baby changing and a family toilet beneath Block 10. It sits on the northern corner between the Thatchers Pavilion and Riverside Stand. For internationals, Blocks 8–10 are alcohol-free; adults without children can also choose these blocks.

The view

This corner gives an angled view towards the wicket, with the field opening out in front of you. Compare Blocks 8, 9 and 10 on the official seating map if choosing allocated international seats. A lower row brings the nearest boundary action closer; a higher row makes it easier to follow the field as a whole.

Alcohol-free family seating

Alcohol-free means choosing the designated seating area, not assuming the whole ground follows the same rule. The club’s international seating guide also identifies low-alcohol Blocks 11 and 12 next door. Children can attend other public areas, but the family stand is the clear choice when an alcohol-free setting matters to your group.

Cover and access

The ordinary seats are open to the weather. The stand catches morning sun and a mix of sun and shade after lunch. Pack hats, sun cream and waterproofs even for a short fixture. Ask Glamorgan about the route and any steps to your row; the nearby family toilet does not make every seat step-free.

Sitting together

Glamorgan domestic matches use unreserved public seating, so arrive with time to choose seats together in the opened areas. Internationals reserve a block, row and seat when you book.

Food, drink and toilets

The family toilet below Block 10 combines an accessible toilet, baby-changing station and mothering area. Ask the nearby steward for access and identify the route before the first ball, especially if one adult will be taking a child while others keep the seats.

Own food with plastic cutlery is permitted under the ground regulations, and cooler bags or boxes are authorised. Own alcohol, cans and glass bottles or containers are prohibited. Use matchday concessions for bought refreshments; outlet locations can vary by fixture.

Who it suits

Jellyfish suits families wanting an alcohol-free seating area and useful baby-changing facilities close to their block. It also suits adults who prefer that setting without bringing children. Practical tip: for an international, deliberately select Blocks 8–10; for an unreserved county day, arrive early enough to find adjacent seats.
