Doug Insole Pavilion, Chelmsford: view, shade and what to expect
Doug Insole Pavilion sits on the north-western side of Chelmsford’s ground, between Tom Pearce and the western Woodland seating. It is a member base with a published public Championship upgrade route, so non-members can use it when Essex offers that category. Pavilion entry, Premier Suite admission and a catered hospitality booking are separate purchases; choose the one that includes the room and viewing you want.

The view
Pavilion room
Essex describes the Pavilion ground floor as wheelchair accessible. Its indoor facilities and outdoor benches make a different visit from choosing a public boundary block. Check the exact entitlement on your member card or upgrade before entering the room; a general ground ticket alone excludes the Pavilion at the published Championship fixtures.
Outdoor viewing
The north-western angle looks across the ground towards the wicket, with morning sun and shade under cover after lunch. Exposed benches and front places catch more light than seats tucked beneath the building. Exact railings, restricted places and reserved seating arrangements are TBC until confirmed for the date.
Premier and hospitality choices
The Scrutton Bland Premier Suite is a separately priced product with its own balcony. Essex’s guidance says it uses stairs and is not wheelchair accessible. Private executive boxes, Players Lounge marquee, Premier Marquee and boundary pods have distinct offers.
Neighbouring seating
Tom Pearce’s lower and upper tiers are on the northern side. The new Woodland seating, announced as more than three hundred places in April 2025, is on the western side. The club’s current map also shows the Players Lounge marquee and executive-box area nearby. These hospitality and fixture-layout positions are context for the Pavilion visit, not additional room access included with your ticket.

Food, drink and toilets
Buy the dining product that names the food, drinks and seating you expect. The 2026 hospitality brochure describes different menus and private or shared facilities for the suite, boxes and marquees. An ordinary public upgrade is an admission product, not automatically a catered day.
Ask staff for the nearest accessible toilet from your actual viewing place. Changing Places is identified in front of the Price Forbes/Graham Gooch Cricket Centre, away from the Pavilion room; arrange any essential access before arriving. Glass and breakable kitchenware cannot be brought into the ground. Use the Chelmsford rules for the match’s alcohol and food arrangements.
Who it suits
Doug Insole Pavilion suits visitors who enjoy a county day with traditional indoor facilities close to their viewing, and regular Essex followers comparing membership with individual upgrades. It offers a different rhythm from a purely outdoor boundary seat. Practical tip: name the Pavilion, Premier Suite or hospitality product explicitly when asking what your ticket includes.
How to get in
The 2026 Championship visitor guide offered a £9 public Pavilion and member-seating upgrade on top of ordinary admission, with the Premier Suite upgrade priced separately at £20. Adult admission was £18 in advance or £24 on the day; junior admission was £10. Individual 2027 Pavilion prices and the categories offered at other formats are TBC. Prices depend on the seat category shown when you book.
