Tom Pearce Stand, Chelmsford: view, shade and what to expect
Tom Pearce Stand sits on Chelmsford’s northern boundary, beside the Doug Insole Pavilion and Achilleus Security River Stand. Its lower and upper tiers have different viewing heights, and the published Championship guide treats both as member seating with a public upgrade available. Choose the tier and admission category together: ordinary ground entry does not automatically include these seats.

The view
Lower tier
The current May 2026 map places lower seating in blocks 2–4, with the Block 1 wheelchair platform alongside. Essex’s official heat guidance identifies the lower blocks as covered. A rear covered place is a sensible starting point if roof shelter matters; front rows can still catch low sunlight.
Upper tier
Upper seating occupies blocks 5–9 on the current map and gives a higher perspective across the cricket. Its roof position and exact restricted rows are TBC in the club material checked. Ask Essex about steps, railings and the seat offered before buying. Public Championship upgrades include both Tom Pearce tiers; Blast and international categories depend on the fixture.
Watching from this side
The northern angle helps you compare the bowler’s approach and the field beyond the nearest boundary. Morning and afternoon bring a mix of sun and shade, with tier, row and roof deciding the shelter.
Neighbouring seating
Doug Insole Pavilion lies towards the north-west; the River Stand continues towards the north-east. The current map shows River lower blocks 10–11 and upper block 12. New Woodland seating sits on the western side and was announced in April 2025. Seasonal installation details are TBC from club sources, so use the match plan for these neighbouring sections rather than assuming a permanent extra building.

Food, drink and toilets
The Pavilion rooms and paid Premier Suite are separate entitlements from an ordinary Tom Pearce seat. Select a catered package only if you want its named food and viewing offer. Match-day concessions have their own opening arrangements; ask a steward for the nearest toilet and interval route from your tier. Return between overs and keep the Block 1 wheelchair platform approach clear.
Glass bottles, drinking vessels, metal cutlery and breakable kitchenware are prohibited. Outside alcohol is not allowed at T20 or televised matches; permitted county formats have specific allowances. Read Chelmsford’s packing rules for the actual format before arriving with a picnic. Current bag dimensions and cool-box permission are TBC.
Who it suits
Tom Pearce is a good choice for county spectators who value a recognisable tiered stand and want the option of covered lower viewing. Families can also compare its ticket category with Kenton’s specifically named family or alcohol-free blocks. Practical tip: write down the block, tier and upgrade before booking everyone’s places.
Tickets
The 2026 Championship guide lists £18 adult advance admission or £24 at the gate, with a £9 public member-area upgrade covering Tom Pearce and the Pavilion. Juniors were £10 and young adults/students £12. These are dated county examples; individual 2027 Tom Pearce and Blast tariffs are TBC. Prices depend on the seat category shown when you book.
