The ground

Chester Road is both a local club ground and an established county venue. The host club’s introduction explains that it stages county Second XI and representative cricket and can serve as a first-class alternative when New Road is unplayable. That makes it worth understanding in its own right, especially if you follow Worcestershire beyond the main first-team calendar. The county’s usual home remains New Road in Worcester.

The relationship was visible before the 2026 season. Worcestershire’s pre-season preview described outdoor training at Kidderminster while ground maintenance continued at New Road, followed by a two-day match against Glamorgan on 24 and 25 March. This was first-team preparation, with the coach discussing opportunities across the squad. It gives a clear reason to visit for cricket while also making the nature of the fixture explicit.

There is a substantial player connection too. The club’s account of its England cricketers records Basil D’Oliveira joining in 1964 and Graeme Hick arriving in 1984. Hick came to the club at 17, before becoming an established Worcestershire player. Other names in the club account include Roy Tattersall, Fred Rumsey, Steven Davies and James Taylor. Our suggestion is to read that history before a visit: familiar county names give the smaller ground an added point of interest.

The club also runs its own senior, junior, women’s and girls’ cricket. That everyday programme is part of the venue’s character. Keep a county match separate from a club fixture when looking at calendars, and use the host club’s own fixture links if you want to attend local cricket. A county team training at the ground does not itself announce a public spectator event.

Stands and where to sit

No published seating plan for the next county fixture is available. Seating allocation, public pavilion access and covered spectator places are TBC. Contact the organiser if you need a chair with a back, shelter or a specific view before deciding on your trip. A photograph of the pavilion cannot tell you which areas will be open to a public spectator on your date.

Our approach to choosing a place at a club outground is to ask where spectators may sit, then compare the wicket view from the authorised areas. A position near the bowler’s line can make bowling changes easier to follow; a more side-on angle may be better if you enjoy watching field placements. Avoid setting up beside a sight screen or access route simply because there is open space there. The match staff can identify the useful boundaries of the spectator area.

If the organiser allows your own folding chair, consider its weight and the complete journey before bringing it. Someone arriving by train may prefer to confirm supplied seating rather than carry a bulky chair through several connections. Our suggested essentials are layers for sitting outdoors, a waterproof and sun protection; early-season cricket can involve long periods of sitting still. Permission for umbrellas, chairs and picnic equipment at the next county fixture is TBC.

Getting there

By taxi or drop-off

Book a licensed taxi in advance if you need a car after play, agreeing a safe collection point with the driver. Check whether your preferred taxi app serves the area.

The host club gives its address as Chester Road North, Kidderminster, DY10 1TH on its location page. Keep the words ‘cricket club’ in a route search: the town has other sports venues, and a search for a county club may send you to Worcester instead.

The National Rail station page places Kidderminster station on Station Approach, Comberton Road, DY10 1QZ, and identifies West Midlands Railway as its manager. Plan the onward route to Chester Road separately from the rail journey. A current official county-match walking time or shuttle arrangement is TBC, so allow time appropriate to your mobility and luggage rather than relying on an unsourced estimate.

Kidderminster Cricket Club’s ground-hire information advertises on-site parking. County-match allocation, any charge and the correct vehicle entrance remain TBC. Ask the host before relying on a space, particularly if a fixture has been relocated at short notice. A parking offer attached to hiring the venue is not automatically the arrangement for a county crowd.

Our suggestion for a pre-season trip is to keep the journey adaptable. Check the county’s match news before leaving and make sure you know how to receive changes while travelling. If arriving by car, settle on a safe meeting or pick-up point with your party in advance. For the train home, allow room for the journey from the ground and for any change in the match’s finishing time.

Getting home

Check your match guide for the expected finish. Play can finish early or run late. Use Kidderminster for Birmingham Moor Street or Snow Hill, or for Worcester. Book a licensed taxi in advance if you need a car after play, agreeing a safe collection point with the driver. Check your last train in the National Rail journey planner and allow time to leave the ground.

Tickets and festival days

Use Worcestershire’s fixture information to identify the county team, opponent and venue, then follow the associated admission announcement. For the 2026 Glamorgan visit, the county’s own match page confirms the place and date. Prices, gate opening times, public access and membership entitlement for the next Kidderminster county match are TBC. Ask Worcestershire before travelling if the listing does not provide an entry instruction.

A pre-season friendly gives coaches the chance to prepare players and distribute workloads. Worcestershire’s March preview specifically discussed rotation across the preparatory matches. Our recommendation is to enjoy that kind of fixture for the opportunity to watch players preparing and developing, rather than expect the structure of a Championship day. Check the day’s proposed playing hours with the organiser if you can attend only part of it.

For Second XI cricket, read the competition label as carefully as the opponent. The official September 2026 listing names Worcestershire Second XI against Somerset Second XI at Kidderminster. Team news and the county match report are useful companions to a visit if you want to learn who is playing. A young player’s opportunity or a senior player’s return can give the day interest without it being advertised as a major festival.

Family admission offers for the next county game are TBC. If you hope to bring children for a short first experience, ask whether public spectators are welcome and what arrangements are available before choosing the date. We would plan a flexible visit with time for a break rather than make a full day compulsory for a newcomer.

Your ticket on the day

Ask Worcestershire’s ticket team how to present your Kidderminster ticket before travelling. Contact them beforehand if your phone or ticket is unusable, or if you need to confirm concession ID.

Children and age rules

Ask the county’s ticket team whether a child needs an accompanying adult for this festival. Confirm junior ID, hospitality age limits and the ID accepted at bars before booking. Taking the family

Buy tickets from the county’s official ticket office or the resale platform named by that seller. Use the official resale route and read Action Fraud’s ticket fraud advice.

What you can take in

Kidderminster-specific county-match rules on picnics, drinks, alcohol, glass, pets and folding chairs are TBC. Worcestershire publishes ticket and ground regulations, but confirm how the organiser applies them to Chester Road and the particular fixture. The host club’s general facilities information does not establish permission to bring an item into a county event.

Our packing advice is to keep the bag small until the match arrangements are clear. Bring the essential items you need for an outdoor visit and ask about food and drink provision if that will determine how long you can stay. Anyone with a dietary requirement should contact the organiser in advance. County-match catering hours, payment arrangements and water-refill points are also TBC for the next event.

Paying at the ground

Bring a card and some cash, as payment methods for this festival need confirmation. Ask the county about cash-machine provision before travelling.

Where to stay

For a Kidderminster cricket trip, our first choice to compare would be accommodation in the town, with a route to Chester Road that suits your transport. Examine the station-to-property and property-to-ground legs individually. If you intend to drive to the cricket, confirm parking at both ends; if you will use a taxi, include that cost when comparing rooms rather than treating the cheapest nightly rate as the cheapest stay.

The official Visit Worcestershire guide highlights the town’s carpet heritage and railway attractions. Those give an overnight visitor other ways to spend time before or after the cricket. Our preference would be a flexible booking while fixture timings and spectator arrangements remain unpublished. If you also want to visit New Road, compare Worcester as an alternative base against the extra journey to Kidderminster.

Evenings out

The Severn Valley Railway’s Kidderminster Town station has its own visitor information, including the King & Castle pub and refreshment facilities. The station buildings recreate a Great Western Railway setting, although the railway explains that they were built in the 1980s. It is a useful nearby attraction to investigate if you like railway history, with opening and service times checked directly before making plans.

For a full extra day, the heritage railway’s trip planner sets out the options for travelling along the line. Choose a running day and return service that suit you rather than assuming that heritage trains follow the normal commuter timetable. We would give a railway outing its own space in the itinerary instead of squeezing it between overs or expecting to return to a match without checking re-entry.

The Museum of Carpet at Stour Vale Mill on Green Street is another daytime option. Its visitor page lists opening on Tuesdays and Saturdays, subject to volunteer availability, and describes level access to galleries and toilets. That is a reason to check the day carefully when choosing an extra activity. For dinner after cricket, use the town visitor guide to compare what is open near your accommodation, leaving a comfortable gap after play.

Fixtures

Worcestershire’s Glamorgan match page confirms Kidderminster for 24 March 2026, and the pre-season preview gives the two-day dates as 24–25 March. The county’s Somerset Second XI listing names Kidderminster for a match beginning on 14 September 2026. These establish county use during the completed season, with the team level and match purpose kept explicit.

Kidderminster county fixtures for 2027: TBC. A first-team competitive festival is also TBC. Watch both Worcestershire’s announcements and the host club’s information if the venue changes, because a rearranged fixture needs its own admission, transport and accessibility details.
